There are many reasons to choose Thailand as a holiday destination; more than 30 million people came to this enchanting land in 2023 and all indications point to that figure increasing next year. Like any other countries, Thailand has a long and colourful history; the only Southeast Asian country to escape colonisation.
In order to ensure that your holiday is one to be remembered for the right reasons, here are a few mistakes to avoid at all costs.
- Comparing prices to home – If you compare prices, things will seem very cheap, when you might end up paying a lot more than you should. Much like any country, vendors tend to try and get as much as they can when selling their wares, so do bear this in mind when buying souvenirs. Staying at Novotel Patong Beach resort puts you in the perfect place and they offer great discounts.
- Ignore the mosquito danger – Some people are of the opinion that this happens to others; aside from the slight risk of Malaria, Dengue Fever is real and while it is rarely fatal, it will ruin your holiday. There is no cure and for at least 10 days, you’ll feel void of energy with aching joints and muscles. We recommend using a local mosquito repellent spray that is made from natural ingredients, which smells nice and is not harmful to your skin. Early mornings and evenings are times when the mozzie population is out in force, so prepare accordingly.
- Sunburn – The tropical sun can be very deceptive, especially in coastal areas; if you are fair-skinned and not used to the sun, be very careful and use a high factor sunscreen every time you go out. This is even more important if you are on the beach. Snorkelling or travelling on a boat can cause sunburn and once you are aware of it, it is too late, the damage has been done.
- Vaping is illegal – Many tourists do not know this; even though vape gear is sold by street vendors, vaping is against the law in Thailand, so do not pack your vaping stuff and if you really must vape, buy a local kit and be discreet! You should also note that many beaches are no-smoking zones, so do look for signs before lighting up. Click here for ocean view villa spots in Thailand.
- Openly smoking weed – Even though cannabis was removed from the Narcotics List, that doesn’t mean you can walk around smoking a joint. Of course, you can’t fail to notice the many weed shops and while you might be safe smoking on their premises, that is not the case for public places. If you want to ingest, do it discreetly and you won’t have any issues.
Thailand is a top holiday destination for many reasons and you and your family will have a fantastic time and will want to return in the future.
