a Good Night’s Sleep

The Importance of a Good Night’s Sleep for Optimum Health & Well-Being

While we are very knowledgeable about many aspects of health, sleep is still somewhat of a mystery; we know that we need sound sleep on a daily basis and if you do not get at least 6 hours of quality sleep every night, it can have a negative impact on your overall health & well-being.

Sleep disorders

There are many reasons why a person might find it difficult to sleep; stress and anxiety can stop a person from enjoying a good night’s sleep. When you have problems in your life, your mind cannot shut down, which soon leads to health issues. Sleep apnoea is a condition where a person’s breathing is interrupted during sleep and for those who sleep alone, the condition could go unnoticed. You might not be aware that your sleep is being interrupted and this would certainly impact your health if not addressed.

Making the bedroom conducive to sleep

If, for example, you live alone, decorate your bedroom in such a way that it has a relaxing ambience; order a single quilt cover from a leading Australian supplier, which should help you to get in the right mood for sound sleep. Low lighting and incense sticks can help to create a suitable ambience, while sound insulation can help if you live in a noisy area.

Create a relaxing routine

Some people are incredibly busy and they can find it difficult to switch off mentally when the time comes to sleep. Of course, we are all unique and what works for one person might not work for another; you should avoid eating for at least one hour prior to sleep and a relaxing beverage such as tea might help relax you prior to sleep. Trial and error is the best way to find what works with you, don’t be afraid to try new things and this should lead to a routine that relaxes you, ready for sleep.

Meditation

Those who practice meditation report having a calmer disposition and if you have yet to try to meditate, it is worth exploring this ancient Eastern practice. Meditation can be combined with yoga to develop the mind, body and spirit; give it a try and you might find it helps you to sleep.

Listening to calming music/sounds

Some people listen to a recording of waves gently crashing onto the beach, while others prefer soft instrumental music. YouTube hosts a wealth of audio content that can help you sleep; explore this and you should find something that works for you.

Seeking medical attention

If your efforts are not rewarded and lack of sleep is causing issues in your life, we recommend seeing a healthcare professional. Some people take medication to help them relax prior to going to bed, although this can lead to addiction. Perhaps it is best to find a natural way to help you get in the right frame of mind for sleep.
