Car tires are one of the most important aspects of any vehicle. As they make direct contact with the road you are driving on, they can have an impact on what control you have over your vehicle. In fact, having tires that are not safe, can be extremely dangerous. As it’s vital for every vehicle to have tires, let’s explore everything you need to know about car tires.

What you need to know about your tires

A common mistake that many car owners make is not learning about tires. Having basic to advanced knowledge about car tires can help you in a predicament and make you safer on the road. Before going into depth about the different components of car tires, it’s important to conduct some research by exploring tire brands online.

By doing this, you’ll familiarize yourself with the different types of tire brands out there and get an insight into other people’s experiences with them by reading customer reviews.

It is not just the brands that you need to explore. There are many types of tires that are created for different driving conditions. For example, all-season tires are the most common tires of 14-18” sizes that provide a driver with an all-year grip, comfort, and a long lifespan. They can from 40,000-100,000 miles and usually have speed ratings of S (112mph) and T (118 mph).  Other types of tires include summer tires for warm weather, winter tires for snow and ice, performance tires for fast driving, off-road tires for rough terrain, touring tires for increased comfort on lengthy journeys, run-flat tires that let you drive a bit after a flat, and all-terrain tires that work well both on and off the road.

Tire sizes: what you need to know

Once you have had a look at the various types of tires, it’s worth educating yourself on the various sizes of tires. Tires come in different sizes to match the specific requirements of vehicles and can impact your comfort and safety. Knowing the right tire size for your car is crucial because it ensures suitable fit, increased performance, and helps maintain fuel efficiency. Each of the numbers in a tire size means something specific. For example, 225/65R17 means the tire is 225 mm wide, has a sidewall that makes it 65 percent as high as it is wide and fits a 17-inch wheel. If you’re unsure about tire sizes, it’s best to talk to an expert in the field you can guide you when choosing the right size of tire for your vehicle.

It is also essential to know how to carry out tire maintenance if you own a car. This can help you prepare for unforeseen circumstances when trouble arises. For example, examining the tread depth and your tires for signs of wear can help to alert you if they need to be changed. When it comes to tires, advanced and unusual wear can reduce the ability of tread to grip the road in adverse conditions. This is why you need to catch the problem in time before it escalates.

Every beginner should know what to do if they get a tire puncture and follow a certain process to deal with it. If you find yourself with a tire puncture and know little about tires, the first step is to stay calm and make sure you get yourself out of harm’s way by parking in a suitable spot. You can contact roadside assistance to help you if you have no clue what to do. However, it’s worth having a tire repair kit near you which includes sealant and an inflator to temporarily fix the problem.

In conclusion, tires are one of the most important parts on your car and learning about them can enhance your driving experience. By educating yourself about different tire brands, types and sizes, you can expand your knowledge on tires which can be fulfilling as a car owner but also a way to keep you safe on the road.
