Daily Habits to Cultivate Self-Esteem & Inner Power

How you view yourself, how you describe yourself and how much you value yourself all combine to create your own personal level of self-esteem.

Often, without knowing it, many people subconsciously practice self-sabotage regularly, through piling on the pressure, criticizing their body or via a whole manner of other negative strategies.

Becoming aware of how much self-esteem you hold is the first step to being able to improve, and with this in mind, read on to discover daily habits to cultivate self-esteem and that all-important inner power.

Start Treating Yourself with Kindness & Understanding

As valuable as a support network is, you are the only one in charge of your own happiness and self-esteem. Therefore, it is time to get to know yourself for who you are, not for what you represent to others.

When an unkind and negative thought finds its way into your head, respond with your inner voice in the same manner, you would if your friends were so critical about themselves. If you are someone who regularly scrolls your Facebook feed and finds yourself comparing your own looks or life to others, you should promise to spend less time on social media.

Other ways to be kinder to yourself in order to bolster your self-esteem include:

  • Practice mindfulness and basic meditation techniques
  • Silence your inner critic
  • Accept and acknowledge that everyone makes mistakes; it’s what makes you human!
  • Remember that self-care is not selfish
  • Learn how to say no

Take Care of Your Body

Many people underestimate the link between physical well-being and mental health. That’s why, on your quest to boost your self-esteem and maximize your power, it is crucial to look after your body.

Make sure you are getting enough sleep every night and drink enough water. You should also keep your alcohol intake to a reasonable level, spend time outside each day in the fresh air and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.

Consider Enhancing Your Smile

Even though the eyes are the window to the soul, when you first meet someone, you are more likely to be attracted to who they are on the inside by how they look on the outside, which is why the more sparkling and white your teeth, the better.

When your teeth are in good condition, you are far more likely to smile more and not be embarrassed about their appearance. What’s more, research proves that smiling and laughter are great relievers of stress and anxiety.

Should you be interested in finding out more about how to improve your smile and both the quality and appearance of your teeth, then do not hesitate to contact Direct Dental, who will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Turn to Talking Therapy

Talking therapy, either on the phone with a charity or through a more structured course of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) sessions, is also useful for discovering the catalyst behind negative self-critique and may be something to consider.

Alternatively, if talking about how you feel and the negative events and trauma that have impacted how you view yourself is something you cannot bring yourself to do, many people who have successfully improved their self-esteem turn to martial arts.

So Are You Ready to Change Your Life?

Self-esteem is so important at every stage of life. It not only changes how you think and feel about yourself, but it boosts how you appear to others. It can contribute to better relationships and even better job prospects. For these reasons, taking note of the above habits should be on your list.
