Angela Lansbury was a British American actress popularly known for her role in the CBS series Murder She Wrote, as Jessica Fletcher, from 1984 to 1996. She was in the Hollywood industry for over 70 years with roles on television, film, and stage. She was the daughter of an English politician Edgar Lansbury and the Irish actress Moyna MacGill. She studied acting in New York City, joined Hollywood in 1942, and signed with Metro Goldwyn Mayer. Her first roles were in the films National Velvet, Gaslight, and The Picture of Dorian Gray in 1945.
One of her best performances was in The Manchurian Candidate in 1962 which was a success.
