Do You Want to Avoid Hosting Spiders in the House? Here are Some Tricks!

Take care of clutter. Some homeowners tend to be particular about cleanliness in their houses. They keep all the corners dirt-free and remove or repair things that tarnish the home’s beauty. In this endeavor, they schedule deep cleaning services at least once a year. Minor corrections also happen along the way. Their homes can feel flawless. Are you one of them? You will want to ensure that every corner of your house stays sparkling clean, and it should be fully functional all the time. Big ticket-size items may only need your attention if something goes wrong. But smaller appliances can be easy to switch.

Think of getting a shower room sink faucet, for example. While these areas may not be your concern, the sight of spiders can greatly trouble you. Spiders can be helpful in homes and gardens as they eat ants, flies, and mosquitoes. But too many of them under the same roof as you, can be unacceptable. Fortunately, you can drive them away through natural and unnatural methods. The mission can be challenging but not impossible to achieve. No, you don’t have to call exterminators if these work in your case. Let’s check out the long-term measures. The process involves various steps to remove eggs and adults and to stop their return to the house.

Vacuum cleaning

The house’s darkest nooks can be the spiders’ home to egg sacs. Take your vacuum cleaner and attack them from up and down. Don’t leave any area – under the sofa, sides of the closets, etc. Suck all the spiders and their webs in and dispose of the contents in the outdoor garbage dumpster.

Improving the environment

Bugs and spiders crawl into spaces where they see the light. You have to block their entry into your home by making the environment less attractive for them. Turn off the outdoor lighting or opt for sodium vapor lights instead of regular bulbs. Also, get rid of everything around the house that doesn’t serve your purpose. Firewood piles, leaves, and other things can attract them for warmth. At the same time, you can put sticky traps all over the house with their backs facing inside. Although these may not uproot the problem entirely because they don’t use pesticides, the super alluring aroma used on them can be a trap for spiders. Check where these traps got most of them. It will indicate the vulnerable rooms which you will want to target.

Applying the non-toxic pesticides

So, the next thing is to focus on the most affected areas. Use spider pesticides to eradicate the problem. You get natural compositions, which can be safe for kids and pets at home. Visit a nearby home center for those spider killers. You may have to apply the solution several times to remove these. No matter what you choose, expect to use the repellant more than once to eliminate spiders. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions closely. The spiders should come into contact with them.

Using homemade solutions

Now, it’s time to use spider repellant. You can prepare it easily at home with essential oils like peppermint, lavender, rosemary, etc. You need to take up to seven drops of your choice of essential oil and mix them with two cups of water and a dash of dishwashing soap in a spray bottle. Sprinkle it in every corner these spiders frequently visit, such as gaps in the external doors, window frames, etc. You may have to test the scent that works best in this mission.

Apart from this, seal all the gaps in the homes, including the cracks in the windows or foundations. Spiders need small holes to enter – block them all. Some people use mesh screens in the vents as an extra measure, which is also a great idea. While these things sound simple, it takes time to get results. You should invest your time and money until you stop their entry.

A few interesting points

Everyone asks one question – why my house has so many spiders? It can be unsettling to spot them anywhere in the house. Interestingly, the answer to this question lies with you. Cracks, gaps, and holes in flooring, windows, sidings, and doors create an inviting environment for them. If you close these passages, their population will reduce. Check wiring and cable lines, which they can use as a bridge to find an entry inside. Some houses appeal to them because of their uncleanliness. Dirt, dust, and darkness befriend them. Those who don’t clean their homes regularly need to change this habit. Otherwise, spiders will build their homes under beds, couches, and chairs. Low and high areas of the rooms also host them well. So, target them with your vacuum cleaner.

Experts say dirty kitchens attract different types of insects, which can be food for spiders. If you take care of the cleanliness of this space, spiders will be less frequently visible. Besides, cold nights can make them seek shelter inside your warm and cozy homes. Or, if it’s hot outside, they will want to enter your house to cool themselves. Some may be attracted to moist areas, while others enjoy a dry environment. And your home has a combination of both. Other sources of entry can be patio furniture, heavy equipment, firewood, etc. They can hitchhike to get free passage into your house.

If you don’t find much relief after all this, it will be best to do pest control at home, depending on the infestation. Using professional services at least once a year can remove most of your issues with insects and other creatures. Of course, there will be a cost to it. But it can solve your primary concern. Some households take pest control help to get rid of the infestation and then try the other solutions within their reach to minimize their encounter with a spider infestation. You can take a cue from them to make your house more hospitable for the family members. Once you learn to tackle them, you will only need to deal with cobweb problems infrequently.
