Being pregnant is a beautiful time, but there are many sacrifices involved. You are advised to be on the side of caution to preserve the health of both you and your unborn child because you are caring for another human being during these nine months. Does this mean that when you are pregnant, you have to bid goodbye to everything that you enjoy? No, but you are required to adjust a few factors.

Here is a list of six things that you have to be very careful while doing or you may have to avoid them.

Table of Contents

  • 1- The first thing on our list is doing exercise during pregnancy
  • 2- You need to say a temporary goodbye to hair dye
  • 3- Try to use any household chemicals after reading safety instructions
  • 4- Household paints may contain health-hazardous lead fumes
  • 5- Exposure to high-dose X-rays can increase birth defects
  • 6- Be careful before taking massage and acupuncture therapy during pregnancy
    • Take Away

1- The first thing on our list is doing exercise during pregnancy

Exercise and being in shape while pregnant are fantastic ideas, but talk to your doctor first to make sure you don’t have any health issues that might restrict you from doing so.

If there are no issues, attempt to exercise moderately for 30 minutes most days of the week, such as walking or swimming.

Moderate routine exercise can:

  • Reduce discomforts like back pain
  • Help out in reducing varicose veins
  • Assist you to become stronger and more fit
  • Help you to maintain a healthy weight
  • Aid in coping with pregnancy labor

You can consult with a gynecologist in order to get better advice regarding your exercise plan.

2- You need to say a temporary goodbye to hair dye

  • The majority of evidence indicates that coloring your hair once or twice while pregnant is generally safe.
  • But the chemicals in hair colors may be harmful in very high doses, according to some studies.
  • The amounts of chemicals used to color your hair are really small in comparison to the quantity which can cause significant damage to your body though.

Add on – The risk is also minimized when you highlight your hair by using the dye exclusively on specific hair strands. Your scalp or bloodstream is not affected by the chemicals utilized; just your hair is.

  • But when there is a risk involved (even smaller significant level) with the health of the unborn child, many women choose to postpone dyeing their hair during their pregnancy.

A tip – Henna is a secure substitute for permanent pure chemical dyes.

  • But if you are still deciding to do hair dye then you need to be very careful.
  • Wear gloves, leave the dye on for the shortest amount of time possible, and work in a well-ventilated area.

Caution – Your hair may respond to coloring or perming differently in pregnancy, for instance, by becoming more or less absorbent, frizzy, or unpredictable.

3- Try to use any household chemicals after reading safety instructions

  • Make sure there are no pregnancy-related safety warnings on the labels of cleaning supplies in your house.
  • Follow the safety instructions on the packaging while using any household chemicals, including cleaning goods, glue, paint, and others.
  • Open the windows and doors to let fresh air in while you are cleaning.

Do you know? – The chemical naphthalene is present in several toilet deodorants and mothballs. From very high exposure to naphthalene, hemolytic anemia happens in mothers which is a disorder brought on by blood cell damage. Loss of appetite, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea are the signs of this disorder. Newborn babies are also in danger of getting this disorder.

4- Household paints may contain health-hazardous lead fumes

  • The likelihood that your infant will be harmed by fumes from contemporary household paints is minimal, but it still possesses risks.
  • Your exposure to lead may rise as a result of home renovations too.
  • Ask for your doctor’s advice before doing anything that might disturb the paint of your home.
  • Lead dust can spread throughout the house and into the air when lead-based paint is disturbed.
  • It is crucial that no pregnant women or young children are present when lead-based paint is being disturbed during restorations.
  • During the first trimester, when your baby’s organs are developing, any slight risk to your unborn child is at its highest. At this point, any hazardous gasses or chemicals could have a more detrimental impact on your baby according to experts.

5- Exposure to high-dose X-rays can increase birth defects

  • According to research, 2 to 7 weeks after conception, exposure to high-dose x-rays might raise the chances of fetal growth inhibition or birth abnormalities.
  • The risks of developing a learning disability in babies can be higher if you have been exposed to x-rays during the first 3 weeks of pregnancy.
  • If at all possible, you should avoid getting an x-ray while you are pregnant.

Bonus – As an alternative, you can think about using an ultrasound scan.

  • According to experts, Persistent radiation exposure can induce the growth of cancerous cells in the body.

6- Be careful before taking massage and acupuncture therapy during pregnancy

  • Some of the complementary treatments, like acupuncture and massage, are usually considered safe during pregnancy, but there are still conditions in which they should not be applied.
  • It is important to know that you should avoid massaging your abdomen during the first trimester of pregnancy.
  • In most cases, receiving acupuncture during pregnancy is safe if you know any well-experienced acupuncturist who is skillful in treating pregnant patients.
  • Inform your acupuncturist that you are expecting because it is unsafe to use some acupuncture sites during pregnancy.
  • You may book an expert acupuncturist if you really need this therapy to relax during pregnancy.

Take Away

It’s crucial to stay away from anything that could endanger you or your unborn child while you’re pregnant. You won’t always be pregnant, it’s just a matter of a few months to avoid your favorite things.

Keep going; soon you’ll be allowed to indulge in all of these forbidden activities along with your cute and healthy baby. Moreover, in order to get further medical advice, it is necessary to consult a gynecologist in Lahore.
