best place to stay in Singapore

Where is the best place to stay in Singapore?

Know both for its history and its modernity Singapore is a dynamic city that attracts millions of visitors every year. Having made the decision to visit the city for a few days or weeks, which neighbourhood should you consider staying in when visiting and why?

First up let’s remember that Singapore is a very safe country to travel around in so you shouldn’t be put off by any certain areas, but before booking accommodation you should probably decide on the general area of the city that you’d rather be based in. While the MRT system is a good means to travel to different locations in the city it is nice to have some nearby attractions reachable by foot.

There are many considerations to take onboard when choosing a hotel to stay in Singapore.  Let’s have a look at some of the different locations you could potentially base yourself at the next time you are visiting the island country state capital.

  • Clarke Quay and Riverside
  • Sentosa Island

Marina Bay

A symbol of modern Singapore, Marina Bay is home to the famous Marina Bay Sands offering stunning vistas of the cityscape with access to attractions like Gardens by the Bay, the Art and Science Museum, and the Marin Sky Park. The Marina Bay area is perfect for travellers looking to immerse themselves in high-end shopping, dining, and entertainment, but on the downside, it isn’t the cheapest part of town in a city known for high prices. It is, after all, the investment hub of South East Asia.

Orchard Road

Orchard Road is the ultimate destination for those wishing to shop while in town. This bustling street is lined with a number of shopping malls ranging from stores selling luxury global brands to locally designed clothes sold from high-street outlets.

Chinatown

Book a hotel near or in Chinatown as this area is very exciting during both day and night. Here you will find traditional shophouses, temples, and bustling markets, and of course, the food is some of the best in town.

Little India

Again, a good choice for foodies, this vibrant district is famous for its Indian cuisine, markets, and cultural landmarks like the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple. Visitors can explore the bustling Tekka Centre, shop for unique handicraft souvenirs, and experience the festival-like atmosphere all year around.

Clarke Quay and Riverside

For nightlife, the Quay is the place to be. This riverside district is buzzing with bars, clubs, and restaurants (some of which are housed in restored warehouses). It’s a vibrant hotspot for evening entertainment, offering river cruises and waterside dining.

Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island is a playground for families. This resort island boasts attractions like Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, and Adventure Cove Waterpark. With its beaches, luxury resorts, and a plethora of entertainment options, Sentosa is perfect for those looking to relax and have fun with the family. Staying on Sentosa offers a resort-style experience with easy access to central Singapore via a short drive or cable car ride if you desire to see some of the traditional city sites.
