David Lee Thomas Bass was the father of Tommy Lee, an American musician. David was born in 1924 in Minnesota, United States, where he spent his childhood and completed his studies. On completing his education, David was signed up for the US Army. He trained with it; years later, he served as a sergeant in the US Army.
David Lee had a great bond with his son; for this, Tommy Lee was adversely affected by the loss of his father. From Tommy’s social media posts, he indicates that his father fought in the Second World War and the Korean War.
Personal Life
David married Vassiliki Papadimitriou in Greece while on duty in the Army and relocated to the United States two years later. Vassiliki was contesting in the Miss Greece Beauty Contest in 1957, the same year she married David Lee. They were blessed with two children, Tommy Lee and Athena, during their marriage. He later married Lois Lavonne Aultman after separating from Tommy Lee’s mom.
His Children
David Lee’s son is mostly known as the founder of Motley Crue, a heavy metal band where he was a drummer. Tommy Lee had his first drumsticks when he was four. While still a high school student, he dropped out to pursue a career in music as he was influenced by the likes of John Bonham, Alex Van Halen, and Tommy Aldridge, among others.
Tommy joined the Suite 19 band, and they used to play music in clubs, the most common one being the Sunset Strip Club in Los Angeles. Along with Mick Mars and Vince Neil, they formed the Motley Crue band in 1981. The band started well, releasing its first album, Too Fast for Love, the same year of its formation.
Other songs followed, including Shout’s at the Devil, Theatre of Pain, and Girls, Girls, Girls, among others. On a solo music career, David Lee Thomas Bass’s son released his first album, Never a Dull Moment, in 2002. He has had his ups and downs, but it has been a great music career.
As an actor, Tommy Lee produced and starred in the reality show Tommy Lee Goes to College. He also featured as Professor Lee on an episode of Season 7 of The Goldbergs. In 2020, David Lee’s son played the Devil in the horror podcast Halloween in Hell.
David Lee’s daughter is also a drummer; she started her career when she was 20. At 22, she joined the Butt Trumpet band. Athena Lee is the first woman in history to be nominated as the Best Drummer in both the male and female categories in the 7th Annual L. A Music Awards. She has also been featured on television, appearing on the reality series Ex-Wives of Rock.
Besides music, David Lee’s daughter was a guest commentator on E! True Hollywood Story and Behind the Music. In her personal life, David Lee’s daughter has been married twice and has three children.
Death
David Lee Bass died on September 18, 2001, aged 77. His family members did not reveal the cause of his death.
