How to Care for Outdoor Furniture Made of Wood and Wicker

With these simple cleaning techniques, you can revive worn-out, soiled wood or wicker furniture. Use warm water and a light oil-based soap to remove dirt. For a homemade cleaning solution, combine 1/4 cup ammonia, 2 tablespoons white vinegar, and 1 quart of warm water. Patio furniture can also be cleaned with commercial wood cleaners, but be sure to carefully follow the instructions. Wicker and painted wood may necessitate dilution of the solution.

Wipe down wood frequently to get rid of dirt, debris, and extra water to safeguard your patio furniture. The finest solution for hardwood furniture is an annual sanding and application of a brand-new finish coat of protection, such as oil, stain, or polyurethane. Additionally, hose off the wicker periodically to avoid dirt accumulation in the crevices.

How to Clean Outdoor Furniture Made of Metal, Iron, and Aluminum

Maintaining the luster on outdoor metal furniture requires thorough cleaning. The most frequent issue with aluminum components is oxidation. Before cleaning, use a metal polishing paste or a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water to remove as much of the fault as you can. Alkaline cleaners promote oxidation; stay away from substances causing oxidation, such as ammonia and trisodium phosphate (TSP).

To preserve its natural luster:

  • Regularly wash aluminum furniture, and use a soft cloth moistened with a non-abrasive cleaning solution to remove scuff marks.
  • Sand off any damaged paint and apply anti-rust primer.
  • With a cloth dampened in mineral spirits or naphtha, remove any remaining metal residue.
  • Prior to painting with rust-resistant paint, use a rust-resistant primer.

For further protection, consider having your wrought-iron furniture powder-coated or sandblasted. Apply a coat (two for iron) of automobile wax after cleaning to protect.

How to Clean Glass Patio Furniture

A few easy cleaning procedures will keep glass patio tables spotless. First, use a glass-safe, non-abrasive cleaner and a cloth or sponge to remove any stuck-on dirt. Choose a scrub brush made for heavy cleaning tasks rather than one that can harm your furniture because many scrub brushes will scratch glass.

The best cleaners are dish soap and household cleaning products. Spray white vinegar or glass cleaner on the surface after the initial cleaning, then wipe it off with a microfiber cloth or paper towel. To avoid permanent filth, wipe off the underside of a glass table at least once a month. Clean glass table frames in accordance with the materials used.

When not in use, you should cover your glass table to preserve outdoor glass furniture clean. If necessary, use a glass repair kit to fix small dings and chips in the glass.

How to Care for Outdoor Hard-Resin and Plastic Furniture

Use the following tips to clean plastic patio chairs and tables of stains and accumulated grime:

  • Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 1 gallon of warm water to create your own homemade mild cleaner.
  • Mix 3 teaspoons of dishwasher detergent, which has a moderate bleaching agent, with 1 gallon of warm water to remove stubborn stains.
  • Mix 1/4 cup vinegar and 1 quart of warm water for colored plastic.

Chlorine and bleach should not be used on white plastic furniture as they eat away at the material.

Use white distilled vinegar on a clean rag to clear up any remaining stains. Baking soda can also be added to a wet sponge to provide a gentle abrasive that will remove stains without damaging surfaces. Do not use abrasive cleaners on plastic outdoor furniture since they will damage it. Your plastic furniture should be waxed with automotive paste wax after being cleaned.

We hope that this blog can help you keep and preserve your outdoor patio furniture fire pit for a long time. Make sure to read your manufactures manual or contact them in case if you are not sure about following any steps.
