Ip Kong Chiu’s Father
Ip Chun, also called Yip Chun, is the father of Ip Kong Chiu. Ip Kong Chiu’s father was born on July 10, 1924, to a famous Chinese martial artist called Ip Man. Ip Man got blessed with two sons, and Ip Chun was the eldest. Ip Chun’s father, Ip Kong Chiu’s grandfather, used to be the Wing Chun teacher of Bruce Lee.
Ip Kong Chiu’s father was born in Foshan, China, where he spent his early days when his father was a police officer and martial artist. In 1949, Ip Chun’s father left Foshan for Hong Kong, and Ip Chun was twenty-four years old and in university and had to remain in Foshan to continue his education.
In 1962, there was a cultural revolution in Foshan and Ip Kong Chiu’s father and his younger brother Ip Ching had to leave for Hong Kong to join their father.
Education of Ip Kong Chiu’s Father
Ip Kong Chiu’s father got educated and finished his university education in 1950 after studying Chinese history, poetry, Buddhism, traditional music, and philosophy. After completing his studies in 1950, Ip Chun decided to be a teacher by profession like their father, and he used to teach music, science, and Chinese history. Besides teaching, Ip Kong Chiu’s father also participated in helping the Chinese Foshan Entertainment Department organize plays and other activities. His music research got recognized and earned him an award for “The Person with the Most Potential in Chinese Art.”
The career of Ip Kong Chiu’s Father
After Ip Kong Chiu’s father moved to Hong Kong, he worked as an accountant and a newspaper reporter during the daytime and trained Wing Chun in the evening under his father’s guidance. Ip Chun was later appointed as the treasurer of the Ving Tsun Athletic Association because he was a founding member and later became the chairman
Ip Kong Chiu’s father decided to help his father, and he started teaching Wing Chun in Hong Kong with his brother. After the death of Ip Kong Chiu’s grandfather, Ip Chun and his brother get entrusted with the film footage he was working on with his partners, hoping they would continue with it.
In 2014, Ip Chun got nominated to represent the legacy of Wing Chun- Style Kung fu in honor of his father, Ip Man. Ip Kong Chiu’s father has taught in many cities in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Besides being a teacher, Ip Kong Chiu’s father got featured in the film Bruce Lee; The Man. Moreover, in another movie, he made a special appearance as the Ip Man 1999.
