Plant Passion: Why You Have A Healthy Obsession with Gardening

Plant Passion: Why You Have A Healthy Obsession with Gardening

If you’re like us and are constantly looking out onto your garden thinking about how you can continue to beautify it then, guess what? You probably have a healthy obsession with gardening. You’ll be sitting there, morning coffee in hand, and you will notice the gorgeous sunlight dancing off your backyard bouquet and you think, “it’s so lovely, but what can I do with it next?”

Thankfully gardening – unlike many other habits we can indulge in – is a healthy habit! Full of joy, health and invigoration, gardening is one of those activities that beautifies our spaces and our lives simultaneously, positively altering our outlook on the world as we view it through the lens of our beautiful backyards.

So, if you have a serious passion for fabulous flowers, opulent outdoor pots, towering trees and more, here is why you might have a healthy obsession with gardening:

1.It is super healthy

This is one of the healthiest hobbies you can enjoy and this for a number of reasons, including:

  • Exercise: Naturally, gardening involves a little hard work, with planting, pruning, weeding and more all part of a morning’s work in the backyard. This makes gardening one of the healthiest activities you can enjoy as it is good for cardio, flexibility, muscular strength and more. Many people who start gardening attest to feeling stronger and healthier a little while after starting their gardening journey and this comes as little surprise.
  • Mental health: Had a stressful work week? Is something (or someone) bothering you to the point that you could just let out a big scream? If so, you can save the big scream for a spell in the backyard. Gardening is one of the best things you can do for your mental health especially when it comes to stress. Gardening is a natural stress reliever as it helps release endorphins and serotonin, both imperative to improving our mood and relieving any stress we may be feeling.

2.It’s also very satisfying

As we mentioned at the start of this blog, there is an amazing sense of satisfaction that comes with going to work in your own backyard and creating something that can make you truly proud. There is a lot of work and learning that goes into gardening and to see the results of this hard work is truly wonderful.

Whether you’re growing a picturesque floral arrangement, or something delightful organic fruit and vegetables for home cooking, there is something so enriching about knowing that you put in the work and get to literally enjoy the fruits of your labour. Gardening is most certainly one of the most satisfying hobbies you can have and that’s probably why you look upon your own backyard with so much fondness!

3.It connects you with nature

Many Aussies spend too much time indoors. From work to lazing about on the couch it seems as if we often take some of the country’s best weather for granted. With this in mind, gardening is one of the best hobbies for connecting you with nature. It takes you from the couch out to the garden and allows you to enjoy all the beautiful natural earth whilst revelling in the sun’s wonderful rays, too.

Naturally, this is also very, very good for your physical and mental health, and just another reason why you might have a healthy little obsession with gardening!
