A solid foundation in financial and economic matters go a long way in today’s globalized world. Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) is a three-to-four-year undergraduate degree program that introduces you to business practices, entrepreneurship and the possibilities of the corporate world. What is the curriculum structure of a BCom degree?

The Bachelor of Commerce program ranges between three and four years in most educational institutions. During this period, you will be introduced to modern business techniques and skills which will help you land lucrative job roles in business and management.

Year One

The first part of your BCom degree focuses on introducing you to the basic concepts of commerce and academic writing. Academic writing sessions will enable you to develop your communication skills and learn to write research papers, which are integral as you move forward. Later, you will study the fundamentals of business such as the different types of organizations, their operations, business processes, finances, and various managerial responsibilities in the corporate industry.

During the first year, you can choose to study elective topics such as business mathematics, calculus, financial accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics, business analytics, operations and more.

Year Two

From year two, you will deal with more advanced topics that prepare you for the coming years. The main courses will revolve around topics like operations management and business environment.

Operations management is all about learning to integrate efficient processes that help in the effective administration of activities in an organization. The business environment introduces you to the social contexts in which an organization works such as government policies, stakeholder management and other global changes.

You can choose elective topics such as statistics, marketing management, human resource management and organization behavior during this year.

Year Three

This year is about building your core skills and gaining a deep understanding of business activities. You will learn about professional communication which will help you manage relations and build teams, business laws which helps you understand the role of law in business processes and decisions, and business ethics which will develop your social responsibility skills and awareness.

The elective topics include finance, investment, taxation and data visualization.

Year Four

As the final step in your academic study program, this year will help refine your theoretical knowledge with practical exposure. You must work on projects during this semester to validate your academic studies.

Besides this, you will learn how to make impactful strategies and business decisions that will help an organization’s growth. Sustainability is also a core thought that is taught this year.
