A Spring in the Steps of Bunk Beds

A Spring in the Steps of Bunk Beds

From their invention in military barracks to becoming a staple feature for children’s bedrooms, the humble bunk bed has been a common item of furniture in most homes across the world. Once considered as a utility arrangement to save space bunk beds have now taken on a whole new approach with respect to style, comfort, and designers of these beds now present products that can act as the centerpiece of any family bedroom.

The bunkbed has been around for centuries and its evolution entertains an interesting narrative. In Victorian-era Europe bunk beds were employed as standard sleeping quarters in army barracks. Before that bunks were used in ship’s cabins. Nothing is particularly new about the use of the bunk bed concept, but nowadays these sleeping arrangements are still popular. Efficient in design these sleeping arrangements allowed multiple people to sleep in smaller rooms without compromising comfort levels in years past. It saved space, and kept units together and ready to start the day in unison in army and navel environments.

Years later in the twentieth century bunk beds became popular in people’s households as families became smaller and living space within homes became smaller too bunk beds were the perfect solution. With one unit rather than two separate bed spaces space was freed up in bedrooms. The number of bedrooms required in a property lessens the burden on real estate purchases and rentals in this day and age when property prices are at an all-time premium.

Tomatokidz bunk beds and other modern outfits are at the forefront of promoting creative new spins on the bunk bed design concept.

The benefits of having a comfortable bedoom bunk bed setup for children at home is the space that it frees up for other furniture, such as a writing desk for doing homework and studying a play area, and the other spaces that are essential for a child’s social, and cognitive development. With a bunk bed in the bedroom, kids have more space to play and learn.

Materials used to make bunk beds have changed over time. Originally made from timber, this has remained the most more popular choice, although metal frames are preferable for their durability. Some bunk beds are equipped with built-in storage compartments underneath to store blankets or clothes underneath the mattress without taking up too much space in the room. Some bunk beds are a single top bunk with a writing desk or work space beneath.

Traditionally considered as a utilitarian piece of furniture rather than a stylish one, modern-day bunk beds have transformed the image of the bunk bed. Designed in various colours and designs suitable for all rooms and living spaces. From rustic cabin styles to sleek contemporary finishes, there’s a bunk bed to suit and home or living space.

With some thoughtful research and planning anyone around the world can brighten up their kid’s bedrooms with functional and fun bunk beds.
